Registered Nurse - Outpatient Department

Kingsbridge Private Hospital North West, Ballykelly is currently seeking to recruit additional Nurse's within the Outpatient department. The successful candidate(s) will be primarily based at Kingsbridge Private Hospital but must be able to travel to various other clinic locations as and when required. The successful candidate will be based at Kingsbridge Private Hospital North West (Ballykelly).

Job Summary

  • To set and maintain high standards of personalised patient care.
  • Adhere to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct for Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors, maintaining professionalism at all times.
  • Adhere to policies as laid down by Kingsbridge Private Hospital, North West in the interest of patients and staff.
  • Ability to develop and maintain policy and procedures.
  • Proactive in supporting senior staff.
  • Communicate and co-operate with Consultants regarding care and treatment of patients, ensuring all treatments and instructions are carried out.
  • Ability to work in collaboration with other clinicians.
  • Awareness of governance issues that reflect safe practice and reduction of any potential risks related to telephone advice.
  • Adherence to privacy, confidentiality, informed consent, and security policies.
  • Ability to tailor communication to the patient needs.
  • Prepare Consultants’ rooms as required, ensuring all necessary equipment and paperwork is present.
  • Prepare patients’ medical charts as required for each clinic, ensuring accuracy of patient details.
  • Greet patients attending for Outpatients clinics and escort patients to appropriate waiting areas.
  • Assist Consultant when examining male/female patients and assist Consultant with minor surgical procedures.
  • Carry out tests at the Consultant’s request, e.g. ECG, blood tests, etc.
  • Analyse and provide Consultant with results of tests.
  • Maintain accurate records, i.e. all surgical procedures carried out, date, etc.
  • Package and ensure all specimens are sent to the Laboratory.
  • Maintenance of Haematology machine.
  • Provide pre-op assessments for patients and maintain comprehensive, accurate records.
  • Liaise with Administration Officer regarding surgery dates for patients.
  • Liaise with Appointments Clerk to ensure review appointments are arranged for patients.
  • Complete appropriate Charge Sheets and deliver to Receptionist.
  • Ensure high standards of cleanliness and Infection Control are maintained within the department and liaise with the Ward Manager/General Manager on any difficulties relating to same.
  • Exercise economy in the utilisation of resources in order that the optimum standard of care can be achieved for each patient and encourage other staff members to be economic with resources.
  • Ability and willingness to keep up to date of new developments within a growing industry.
  • Report on all accidents, incidents or near misses to the Ward Manager/Hospital Director and complete relevant documentation.
  • Ensure all defective equipment is immobilised and reported immediately to the Estates Manager.
  • Participate in mandatory training as required.
  • Participate in annual performance reviews and development planning.

The above list is not exhaustive and additional / alternative tasks may be required from time to time as directed.

Essential:

  • Registered Nurse on Part 1 of NMC register.
  • Degree qualified with a minimum of 2-3 years post registration experience.
  • 2 years’ experience at Band 5 or above.

Desirable:

  • Preferable GP / treatment room / Practice Nurse experience, but not essential.
  • Preferable acute service experience such as A&E.

The applicant should be:

  • Enthusiastic and willingness to learn new roles and take on responsibility as the role develops.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Flexibility.
  • Willingness to develop within the role and provide support for new and innovative thinking in healthcare.
  • Confidence in autonomous practice (where appropriate).
  • Candidates must be flexible regarding hours of work
  • Must also be willing to undergo an Access NI (Police Check)
