What tests are available?
PCR testing - this will help determine if you have active disease on the day of the test. It does not tell you if you have previously been exposed to the virus in recent weeks or months and does not produce any confirmation of having Antibodies to the virus.
It involves the insertion of a swab into the nose and throat which many people will have seen in the media in recent months. This takes place while you sit in your car with the window down and the engine switched off. One of our trained staff members will approach the car and explain the process to you and there is no need to leave the vehicle at any stage unless you need other blood tests. The swab process takes less than a minute and while it shouldn’t be sore it can be a little uncomfortable.
Results are available in around 24 hrs and prices start at £199. This price includes a telephone consultation with one of our specialist GP’s and an official lab report confirming your status.
Antibody testing - this will help determine if you have been exposed to the virus in recent weeks or months. It cannot accurately determine if you have “active” disease unless until you are around 1 week post exposure to the virus. For this reason it is not recommended for anyone needing to establish if they are infected on the day of the test.
A blood sample is taken from your arm or the back of your hand before being sent to a specialist laboratory.
Results are available in around 48 hrs and prices start at £199. This price includes a telephone consultation with one of our specialist GP’s and an official lab report confirming your status.
Please note that pre booking is essential for both tests and testing is available Monday to Friday.
Current government guidance advises that if you have any of the symptoms of Covid19, a negative PCR test will not automatically mean you can return to work. It also advises against re-testing of positive individuals over several weeks as they may still test positive several for several weeks after the initial exposure. We recommend adhering to government guidance in conjunction with any advice given by our medical practitioners.
